Scheduled Maintenance

8 May 2018, 3.30pm

Date: 9th May 2018 to 9th May 2018

Time: 2.00am - 4.00am

Purpose: Critical Security Patch in Core Network

Affected Data Centre: iWV Upstream Provider in Racks Central

Viewquest will be implementing a critical security patch to their core network which will affect the BGP peering between iWV and Viewquest. Estimated downtime to the link is about 60 mins.

However, since iWV is multi-homed to other ISPs (STIX & Equinix) , traffic will be automatically re-routed via these ISPs during the maintenance period. Customers may expect some intermittent connectivity issue and/or slowness during the maintenance window. iWV engineers will be on-site to monitor the maintenance.

Should you be faced with any issues during the maintenance period, please assist us by doing a trace-route and ping test to your server IP and forward the results to support.sg@iwv.works.

Please feel free to contact us @ our main hotline number 68681199 or email to support.sg@iwv.works should

you have any queries with regards to the maintenance.

The recently uncovered two huge processor vulnerabilities Meltdown and Spectre have captured the world by storm. These two vulnerabilities affect all modern processors and nearly all operating systems, smartphones and computing devices manufactured in the last 20 years.

In short, Meltdown and Spectre are security vulnerabilities found in many processors that potentially allow attackers to steal your passwords, encryption keys and other private information. Both attacks make use of speculative execution to access privileged memory including those allocated for the kernel – from a low privileged user process allowing attackers to steal passwords, login keys and other valuable information.

As your responsible service provider, iWV has undertaken necessary actions since the news about the vulnerabilities were released. We are already in progress with installing updated security patches on our Infrastructure to protect the interests of our customers. Such work is expected to be completed within the next few days.  There is no expected disruption or downtime during this maintenance.  We will also be closely monitoring our servers for any external malicious activities that might threaten the integrity of our Infrastructure.

At the same time, we would also like to take this opportunity to advise all our customers to install all available updates and patches on your operating system to prevent any security threats that might arise from these two vulnerabilities. While we have taken all necessary precautions on our end to secure our infrastructure, the risk within individual operating system in physical or virtual machine server remains. Hence, we would like to reinforce the importance of performing security updates to your operating system should you be managing it yourself.

In the meantime, if you detect any suspicious activities or suspect that your website or server has been compromised, please contact us immediately at support.sg@iwv.works.
